Student managed investment fund: shaping tomorrow through sustainability and social impact | 2024 Shaping Australia Awards finalist
Industry feedback consistently highlights the need for graduates to have real-world skills. However, internship opportunities with top companies are limited and rarely include students from diverse backgrounds.

To address this, Griffith University established the Student Investment Fund (GSIF).
An investment fund pools capital from multiple investors to invest in assets, such as company shares. Through GSIF, students gain hands-on experience in socially responsible investing, analysing real data, researching company ethics and making investment proposals.
This practical experience equips them with valuable industry knowledge and career skills.
All net returns from the fund are reinvested into an annual $5,000 scholarship for undergraduate Griffith Business School students facing financial hardship.
GSIF has become Australia’s second-largest student investment fund and has consistently outperformed the market. In the 12 months to July 2024, it delivered returns 79 per cent higher than the Australian Stock Market and 107 per cent above the Dow Jones Sustainability Australia Index.
