Edith Cowan University (ECU) has a range of activities on offer for National Science Week including tips for encouraging wildlife to visit your garden, the science behind brewing, and learning how to crochet your own hyperbolic geometry shape.

National Science Week, from 10 – 18 August, provides an opportunity to acknowledge Australian scientists' contributions to the world of knowledge, and encourage an interest in science among the general public.

Science Week features more than 1,000 events around Australia, including those delivered by universities, schools, research institutions, libraries, museums and science centres.

Outreach and Engagement Coordinator in ECU's School of Science and Inspiring WA Coordinating Committee Co-Chair, Cass Rowles said ECU was proud to support National Science Week.

"Thanks to grants from Inspiring Australia and National Science Week, ECU's School of Science is running its own Science Week events across Perth and Bunbury," Ms Rowles said.

"The informative and fun activities are open to the public, cater for a range of ages and interests, and include free and paid options, all with the aim of sparking an interest in science in our everyday lives."

Grants to engage all West Australians

ECU is proud to sponsor National Science Week in WA through community focused grants. These small and medium grants go towards STEM events and initiatives across the State to increase engagement among all West Australians.

This year, a total of nineteen events were funded. From celebrating First Nations astronomy knowledge, to getting hands on with slime, this year's grant recipients showcased the versatility of STEM and will connect WA communities. You can see all the funded events in this year’s event guide.
